Tutorial For Two Rare Unique Finale Closers For A Circle Show.

I am a sidewalk performer.
I prefer close up, always have, but in my career many times I have had to spend time doing circle shows to pay bills when the opportunity arose.
Most Magicians with big Circle Shows end with The Cups and Balls, Straight Jacket, or Bill In Lemon. Of course there are rare exceptions like Multiple Selection, card to wallet, or thrown card over a roof, but few venture outside the usual for their circle shows.
In my career as a street performer I have tried all these finales and quite a few more, even finaling with other things not magic related, like clowning, mime, or monologues.
The key is play big.
Break dancers, jugglers, acrobats, and sideshow performers, to name a few, play big.
Rope magic can put a Magician back in the game.
I have used a straight jacket in circle shows in the past, but when I used a hundred foot of rope for an escape show, I realized I was creating a bigger foot print with my assistants stretching out the rope to tie me up.
Escapes were great, but I wanted to do a much more magical routine with rope and came up the routines we will be talking about today.
In this tutorial, we are going to be explaining professional street rope magic, which is very different from standard rope magic.
We will not be using standard cotton magician's rope, but instead will be using tough mariners polyester rope.
You will need two pieces 9'6" each, and two pieces 1'each
We will not be using standard silk magicians handkerchiefs, but instead we will be using two men's all cotton handkerchief like one may find in a department store or at Walmart.
I cut and hand sewn my own so I choose my own color and sizes.
That's it.
Think about that, that could be your entire rig for a full blow circle show that competes with all the big acts.
This thing packs small and plays as big as you need it to.
Today we are going to be talking about a circle show routine using cut and restored rope, and rope through the body using big colorful props.
I prefer buying blue candy striped mariners rope for a circus look, and use red handkerchiefs that are bright, but contrast the color of the ropes for clarity in the effect.
My cut and restored rope routine without the use of scissors, is a routine I learned from my teacher Doug Conn, it is a very brief shortened version of the standards most Magicians do, because my focus is on the bigger trick, The Rope Through The Body and of course the situation comedy of my street show.
If you are interested in more of this type of cut and restored rope magic, you can check out Fiber Optics by Richard Sanders or learn it from Doug like I did.
I will explain two methods for pulling rope through the body with two variations of The Grandma's Necklace.
This trick is very different from the original, but in Keeping with tradition all the props are innocent and can be examined throughout.
Everything in these two methods of rope through the body can be examined, not a single prop has been purchased at a magic shop. Everything can be bought at your local grocery, hardware, or box store.
In fact much of the mystery and crowd building attraction to this effect is in the examination before and during the presentation.
The audience gets to watch you get tied up with the help of two assistants or you can do it yourself depending on the type of show you choose to do.
These tricks can be done close up or stage completely surrounded, it has no bad angles at any point.
I learned these methods in the Hugard's Magic Manual where I get most of the best secrets known to magic.
