The Two Coin Repeat And The Value Of Specalized Street Tricks.
-includes an ungimmicked hopping half tutorial.
The ungimmicked Hopping Half.
Gimmicks are expensive specially made secret devices made to do the trick. They usually have to be made with special tools by experts. They often break, and need to be replaced to do the trick.
Some of you may have noticed that the tricks I teach here on the site are very very basic, with little to no skill, and no gimmicks.
The reason I do this, is because you do not want things that are liable to go wrong.
You need tricks that don’t take concentration, because you need that to deal with all the complexities, of performing live, in unpredictable surroundings.
Also most of the tricks you see in online videos, simply won’t work on the street in real life, due to the angles and unpredictable people in front of you.
In real life, people may grab something, or look underneath quickly, or shout out something. This combined with people walking behind you that you can’t see, could be doing something in the middle of your performance.
Much of the handling I see in popular online videos, simply won’t work out there with humidity, wind, rain, people walking in front and behind you.
Believe me I’ve tried.
The tricks that do work great every time, in real life, on the street, are few and far between.
The first time I went out to the street, I realized that my extensive repertoire was depleted to just a handful or reliable tricks.
So the material I am showing may not seem spectacular online here, but I assure you, if you try these effects out in real life, they get huge reactions, because the spectators also realize you are performing these amazing things under these apparent impossible conditions.
One last note, the magic is not what the people stay to watch anyway, they stay to watch the story you are telling.
The tricks, are merely the special effects of the story.
You must put all of your focus on your story not tricks.
Here’s a performance of what we will be learning today.
This is my handling of the Hopping Half without the secret device.
Credit should go to my student Padre Rich for teaching me the handling and sequence, before I changed it for my own use.
His presentation in my opinion, is far superior to mine, due to the subtitles that he added from the original that he learned from Carl Andrews the genius and master who cracked the code on how to do the hopping half without the gimmicks
In today’s tutorial we are going to learn this routine, but we are going to learn how to do it on the street and how to blow it up into a crowd building show piece.
For example, we will learn about using a clear plastic cup instead of a real glass, to avoid dangerous accidents,.
We will learn about getting out from behind a table and walking around with the props and handing them out for examination, to make your show bigger and more interesting.
We will also be learning some bonus sight gags and different approaches to this trick.
Another thing about the tricks I teach here, is that the props don’t need to be bought at a magic shop.
They can be made or improvised.
The reason for this, is because you will not always have access to a magic shop at a moments notice.
Sometimes out on the road, you could lose your rig and be broke and you will need to make money to rebuild a rig. This can be done by simply improvising and building most of it from things around you.
This trick is great for improvising, because it can be done with any two coins that are two different colors, in fact today I will be teaching it with a Eisenhower dollar and a dollar sized solid copper Penny. You can get this Penny at most coin shops or here at RNT .
These large pennies run about $3 each.
So let’s take a look at how I do this this stuff in our tutorial video below.
